So I made my own theme for another blog just for my kids, Neal and Kent. I’ve been meaning to get going on WordPress theme development, and it’s taken me forever but finally I’m tackling it. Since I already know PHP pretty well, this hasn’t been so painful. What’s more painful is trying to find a decent site that actually explains things well. I’m still looking, by the way.

I did manage to use a few sites that helped get a better idea of putting it all together, they weren’t perfect but they at least sparked the light bulbs. Here’s the list of stuff I bookmarked.

http://www.dbswebsite.com/design/wordpress-reference/ – basically just the same thing as the template tag list on the WP documentation, but snazzier.

http://www.dezinerfolio.com/2007/11/27/developing-a-wordpress-theme/ – they have code snippets for the essential pages you need for a basic theme.

http://www.smashingmagazine.com/2008/09/15/wordpress-developers-toolbox/ – this has a bunch of links to other useful places (including the ones above).

I’ve decided to start a blog, mostly because I’m working on WordPress template development and I need to finally familiarize myself with the software. I’m not the best at keeping up with blogs but hopefully I will post at least once a month here. Besides Facebook and Twitter, it’s yet another thing for me to keep track of!

I think I’m an interesting person; hopefully I will find something interesting to say.
